There are days when we simply want to indulge, without worrying about calories, macros, and diets. We’re giving you our blessings to do so. We often forget that food is to be enjoyed, not perceived as something we should feel guilty about. In fact, the categorization of foods into “good” or “bad” is really not fun for anyone, least of all, our health.

But the question arises: if we’re supposed to enjoy all foods without a sense of guilt, does that mean we should indulge at all times? Well, the answer lies in balance, which may seem unattainable when you’re taking down that 5th chocolate chip cookie, but in reality, it may be much more achievable than you may think. In case you haven’t tried the substitution method yet, you’ll be pleased to discover all the healthy variations of your favorite desserts. Not only are these well-balanced, low-calorie dessert options, but they’re also packed with benefits that are generally neglected in their original form. If you love your pudding, but dread all the hidden calories, additives, and sugar - here’s a delicious Filipino alternative packed with health benefits.

    Tapioca Benefits

If you haven’t tried tapioca yet, it is safe to say you’re missing out! This South American tuber belongs to the starch group, and it is extracted from the cassava root. Tapioca is actually one of the purest forms of starch as it is gluten-free and therefore recommended in numerous diets as a wheat substitute. Aside from pudding, tapioca is often used in dishes such as gluten-free bread and flatbread. It’s also a popular thickening and binding agent. As it is almost 100% starch, tapioca mostly consists of carbs, and it is one of the best sources of carbohydrates for its low caloric composition (28 grams of tapioca have only 100 calories!).

One of the biggest advantages of tapioca is its gluten-free content which makes it suitable for a variety of modern diets. Nowadays, many people are struggling with gluten, grain, and wheat allergies, which makes tapioca an easy alternative. What’s more, tapioca is a well-known source of resistant starch, which acts as fiber and promotes digestion. Tapioca has also been found to proliferate the good bacteria necessary for normal functioning of the gut. Tapioca comes in various forms, including flour, as well as pearls, which we’ll be using for our collagen-infused pudding today.

    Why Add Collagen?

If you ask us, there’s always a valid reason for adding collagen! Collagen powder is highly soluble, tasteless, and odorless, which makes it a perfect addition to your meals and beverages. However, its benefits stretch far beyond the realm of the kitchen, as it is the most abundant bodily protein, responsible for holding almost everything together.

Collagen is the main constituent of bones, skin, connective tissues, joints, as well as blood vessels. Without collagen, the body would lack strength, durability and flexibility, and numerous processes would be jeopardized, including your immune function. Having its satiating effects in mind, it is no wonder this protein is recommended in numerous diets, as it promotes the feeling of fullness and can help to support weight loss.

Supplementing with a premium collagen peptides powder is also the best source of pure collagen protein, providing the body with this essential superfood in a high bioavailability way. Numerous factors, including stress, pollution, smoking and drinking take a toll on our body, and can easily compromise natural production. Therefore, we need to be mindful of our lifestyles and nutrition, and replace the collagen our body loses as we age.

In case you’re physically active, there is an entire array of collagen properties that would benefit your overall well-being and boost your performance. Collagen peptides have been shown to increase energy levels, promote endurance, as well as enhance alertness during exercise. What’s more, collagen is necessary for the optimal functioning of muscles, ligaments, bones, and joints, preserving their structure and strength. When it comes to recovery, collagen is associated with better sleep quality and faster recovery after injury due to its structural role.

What makes collagen and tapioca a perfect match, besides all the obvious benefits, is their mutual gut-healing effect. Just like tapioca, collagen too appears to promote the good bacteria in the gut, as well as its digestive functions. Furthermore, collagen protein is very much present in the structure of the gut lining, preserving its integrity and helping to manage conditions such as leaky gut syndrome. Collagen can also act as an anti-inflammatory agent, easing the symptoms of unpleasant digestive conditions.
